I turned 40 last year, but was feeling pretty young overall. On a couple occasions, I had suspected that old age thing was looming, like the at my checkup 2 months after I turned 40 when I had to have extra tests done. In hindsight, it's so clear now. On February 25, 2009 I became old.
The week before my sister's birthday, I was at the lowest weight I have been in years and had completely forgotten that extra tests thing. The week after her birthday, a pound had creeped back on. It appears that my metabolism stopped somewhere in between those dates, February 25 to be exact. I gained a pound a week for 10-12 weeks after that. When I went to the doctor, all they had for me was, "Well, you are 40 now." Ugh...
But I was still in denial, until today. I went to the eye doctor today because I was out of contacts and my vision has been a bit weird lately. By weird I mean intermittent periods of double vision when I read. The doctor said it seemed odd and my vision was essentially the same as it has been for years. Then he asked two questions. "Are you 40 yet?" "Is it only when you read?" I knew where this was going and I didn't like it. Ugh...
I turned down the prescription for bifocals, but I'm feeling a bit old now. I still plan on fighting this growing old thing, right after I take an afternoon nap...
